The Way Into Magic Book Two of The Great Way eBook Harry Connolly

Connolly doesn't miss a beat with book two. It's dark, emotional, fun to read and I couldn't put it down. You have two storylines happening side by side with two sets of characters fighting there way thru a world being consumed by otherworldly creatures. Cazia, a 15 year old ward of the Italga Royal family and Tyr Tejohn, a solider and commander under King Italga are really strong characters. Their survival is key because their goal is to find answers and a solution to stop the invasion. What they learn along the way is bittersweet. Is the invasion and hostile takeover the result of a God's anger at the empire or is it the work of a civilization once believed allies? If it is this civilization why? Why would they curse the world allowing such threats to come thru the portal? Man is losing the war and Cazia and Tyr Tejohn believe the only solution is to find and learn the spell that may close the portals.

A must read! I'm happy I finally chose to the series.

The Way Into Magic Book Two of The Great Way eBook Harry Connolly Reviews

Well written second book in the series. Great world building and characters. Fast paced action with lots of difficult twists and turns in the quest of our hero and heroine. Lots of new magical and non-magical creatures to fight or to treaty with.

Not a complete book in itself but one of those that just ends suddenly without resolving much at all. You will need to read the next book to get any sense of completeness in the overall story.

Highly recommended for anyone who loves adventure/fantasy.
I found the second book to be even better than the first one.
The world events are still interesting, the mysteries that are hinted at had me turning pages to see what new information would be revealed - Who's behind the invasion? What's up with the gods? Where are the evening people?
This book continues the stories of Tejohn and Cazia, and while I wasn't really captivated by them in the first book, I found myself becoming more and more attached to them and caring about them as I progressed through the book. I'm not sure if the change was in them or in me but they have sort of grown on me.
Really looking forward to the next part of the series.

The one gripe that I have with this book is that the author seems fond of cliff hangers which is an unforgivable offense in my book, but is somewhat mitigated in this instance since all three book are coming out so close to each other.

A good 4.5 stars.
Worthy series addition. Complex world, fully realized characters, well plotted, good pacing and action, magic system that holds together and a society that is logical and believable for that magic system. Ranks with Sanderson's stormlight series, Name of the Wind, and Game of Thrones. Well worth the read!
I had high hopes for this one. The first book was awesome, and delivered a lot of cool surprises and plot twists. There were parts that dragged, but overall I really enjoyed the first book. Then the second book came out. It's a hundred pages shorter than the first book, which was alarming, but I tried to ignore that. But very little of actual import happened, with much of it devoted to a LOT more traveling with Cazia and company, none of which I found interesting. A couple things happened in the story that I literally had to stop and go, "What the hell?" Some things didn't make sense or felt forced, and that bugs me. The Way into Magic stutters, falling into the second book illness. I can only hope the final book makes up for it.
This book was an excellent follow up to the first book. It picks up immediately after the ending of the first book and the pace does not let up. The book is shorter than usual but after reading it made sense... he told the story he needed to tell and i would rather have a clear and concise story without "extra" filler just to get the word count up.

If you liked the first then you will definitely be happy here. The characters evolve, the world is expanded upon, and mythology explored. Some questions are answered but there are many more new branches that open up. I tore through this book as i could not take my eyes off the pages. )
I am really enjoying the character development in this middle installment, especially of the three displaced young women learning to work together. The story presents some interesting challentes to the main characters in their respective storylines, and they each seem to be learning to see things from a broader worldview. Ends on a bit of a cliffhanger, so I'm excited to get to the conclusion! Would definitely recommend this series to fans of epic fantasy and ttrpgs. It certainly got me in the adventuring mood!
Connolly delivers again in this, the second volume of The Great Way trilogy. One of the problems with a trilogy is that it's bloody hard to write a good second book. The author has to keep the plot moving and have it be interesting without doing too much and stealing the thunder from the finale. Connolly manages to pull off that trick.

The characters continue to grow and develop as well. Cazia Freewell, the young magic user continues to develop her powers. There's also a neat twist on the use of magic in this world. Cazia is accompanied by a young nomad named Kinz and a princess nicknamed Ivy. Having three strong, complex female characters is a treat. Tejohn Treygar continues on his epic journey to fulfill his mission for his king but not without seeing more than his share of tragedy and success.

I absolutely cannot wait until the last book in the trilogy comes out in early February 2015. Then I hope Harry gets cracking on his next project.
