TOXICITY is an engaging story that will haunt you on many levels. The characters are developed; the reader becomes invested. I found myself furious with every character at one time or another while reading this book which just goes to show how well written this story is. (I don't want to tell you why so as not to spoil the story for you. Just let it be said that by the end of Chapter 39, I had some not-so-nice things to say to one of the characters. By the next couple of chapters I was cussing at another character. By the end, I had a few more words to say!)

Plan to get emotionally involved while reading TOXICITY. Plan to enjoy reading TOXICITY. Why? Because it is anything but toxic!

I keep coming back to the same core strengths after reading a Libby Fischer Hellmann book

Story She starts with great premises grounded in real life and supports them very well while advancing her plots briskly.

Character She supplies sound motivations and excels with emotional shading.

She just is very consistent. If you've read her series, it's enjoyable to learn more about the central characters (like Davis but many others too) .
In TOXICITY, Ms. Hellman aptly combines current fears for the environment with a fast-paced police procedural and creates a compelling read. The story has dark and creepy murders with a mysterious poison, characters' private lives that can't run smoothly with the career they've chosen, and sharp writing to pull it all together. I look forward to reading more of Ms. Hellman's mysteries. With her talent, they're sure to be equally good.
This is the 3rd one I read. It was so interesting to find out how everyone met. The characters are so engaging. Highly recommend.
Graft corruption toxic waste bribes cover-up murder melodrama. Written in partial flashbacks and quick cut-aways, this story teeters between personal dramas and horrific legal injustices as seen through the eyes of each victim. Not one I will re-read in the future. Ultimately everyone in the story ends up a victim.
Wow, what a good audio book! I liked how all the pieces came together, finally, and we saw how all the characters were connected. I listened to the audio book and it was really good. I couldn't wait for my commute and daily walk every day, just to listen to it! I did not figure out what was going to happen, so the author was very good at the suspense and the plot. Ms. Hellmann is a really good writer and I hope to read ALL of her books!
Reading the 5-star reviews, I decided to take a chance on this story. I am so disappointed I wasted my time, and my money. Aside from the names, all of the characters talk, and act, like the same person. The narrative is juvenile (perhaps written for the young adult crowd) and flat. I got the sense that the author went to the "I was hungry, I made a sandwich and I ate it" school of writing. I gave up on it within twenty pages, not even caring how it turned out.
There are references to dates that just don't add up to this being as recently written as its 2013 pub date. Without those confusing date references, the problem of building on top of toxic waste could be a worthwhile contemporary social commentary. That content floats it a bit above average, maybe enough for ½☆, but it's just not 4☆. I was disappointed that reputed series star Georgia Davis is, except for one brilliant computer search, about as ineffective and wrong-headed as a perpetrator. With other focal characters quite morally flawed, too, I'm not seeing this as a very heroic series – or well proofed either. After all this time, you'd think the typos would be corrected.
