The Captive Imposter The Everstone Chronicles Book 3 edition by Dawn Crandall Religion Spirituality eBooks
This is the third book in this series and tells Estella Everstone’s story. The setting is the beautiful countryside of Maine in the year 1891. Estella is the youngest of the Everstone children and often feels invisible. Men court her for her social position and substantial inheritance, not for who she is as a person. She has always kept to herself and been quiet. She has no close friends. After a tragedy at her brother Will’s wedding, her other brother, Vance thinks it would be safer for her to go into hiding until things settle down. Estella doesn’t want to be sent off all alone, but her brother insists. She is hired as a lady’s companion and they travel to one of her father’s hotels, Everston. This hotel is Estella’s favorite and she one day hopes to own it. She meets the man who manages the hotel, Dexter Blakeley. He is distant and gruff, but she is attracted to him nonetheless. She is still trying to get over a broken heart as well as using a false identity, so she tries to not make any attachments.
She soon finds herself spending time with Dexter at the urging of her employer and discovers there is much more to this man than she initially thought. He finds Estella, or Elle her undercover name, irresistible. He is so thankful she is not one of the many spoiled society women who vacation at his hotel. Dexter preaches to the hotel guests on Sundays in the spring, summer and fall. When he preaches, Elle takes his word to heart and grows in her relationship with God. Can this wonderful man of God so full of compassion really have feelings for Elle? She has changed nothing about her person or character other than her name, so surely he won’t hold her social standing and money against her when she tells him her true identity will he?
The vivid descriptions of the scenery and Blakeley mansion made me want to see this area of the country. Dexter’s willingness to help women in desperate situations with his own time and money was commendable. Although there were certain aspects of Estella’s character that I could identify with, such as desiring to be alone more often than most people, I didn’t connect quite as well with these two main characters as I did in the first two books. The story was still very much worth reading, and I look forward to book four in the series, The Cautious Maiden.

The Captive Imposter The Everstone Chronicles Book 3 edition by Dawn Crandall Religion Spirituality eBooks Reviews
"The Captive Imposter" is Book 3 in the Everstone Chronicles series and it is my personal favorite. I like the way the author continues to develop previous characters, while introducing new and interesting characters. This book was the best developed story of the three i my opinion. There was no repetition or whining from Estella Everstone , just one more level up to the climax. This is a clean romance including suspense and twists that kept me up reading!
This 3rd book in Crandall's series is the best of the bunch so far, in my opinion. And that's saying a lot, as I LOVED book 2, and I enjoyed book 1. This one, however, literally left me breathless at points. As Dexter's character unfolds, you begin to easily understand why Estella is falling for him. He's just the right amount of concerned and caring while being a strong and committed leader for his family and job. Estella is kind, humble, and discovering who she really is outside of the fuss of her "normal" life. I've come back to this book again and again just to reread the snippets that make me sigh! I highly recommend and I can't wait for the next book!
This was my favorite of the 3! Ahhh - what a satisfying conclusion to the series! The telling of God's love for us and how all that matters is trusting Him for everything. A story of forgiveness. Clean romance. I loved the characters and stayed up way too late to finish reading it! Now I'm sorry that I'm finished! Am very much hoping for another book from Dawn Crandall. Her way of writing is very easy to follow along, with just the right amount of everything - God's Word, forgiveness, clean romance, drama and a bit of mystery. I highly recommend this book!
What a beautiful piece of romantic literature! As Estella disguises her identity for her own safety she experiences the terrible loss of every comfort and secure part of her life she knew. From a millionaire heiress to a poverty-stricken ladies' companion, Estella learns that happiness is not found in her pocketbook but in the loving and loyal relationships that begin to grow through her kindness and courage. Dexter Blakely learns that falling in love is not as painful as he thought and in fact quite wonderful if it is the beautiful Elle. Their growing affection is deeper and stronger but some enemies, known and unknown, do everything they can to prevent their happiness. This kept me turning the pages late into the night until the very last one. Ms Crandall balances the tension perfectly between a clean, but sparkling relationship. And the ending ties up the difficult problems wonderfully and completely. (Although I really do hope she writes another story about Vance). One of the best books I ever read --excellent and compelling writing.
I don't even know what to say. I've used all the adjectives I can think of when describing Dawn's books (exquisite, beautiful, poetic, even swoon-worthy). The Hesitant Heiress and The Bound Heart were both absolutely incredible books--The Bound Heart especially spoke to me with its content (something I won't get into here because of spoilers). I found The Captive Imposter to be a bit more character-driven than the previous two, and it absolutely made my heart skip beats.
Dawn has mastered character development and writing attraction and tension between characters. What makes TCI even more of an inspiring read to me is knowing that she was writing this story as a brand-new mum while also getting THH and TBH ready to be published and released. To have all three books in The Everstone Chronicles released within eight months of one another while writing, well, exquisitely, is a true feat.
The relationship between Estella and Dexter is breathtaking. I don't even know what else to say about it. )
I have loved all three books in this series, and can't quite claim to have a favorite because each book touched me in different ways, and each book has left an impression on me that will last a long time.
